Life for a deployed soldier, sailor, airman, marine or coastie can be days of boredom interrupted by hours of fighting/ops. During the down time, people like to read to get their mind off the hostilities and they LOVE to get packages from home. But did you know that many of our youngest troops get NOTHING from home. No mail, no letters, no cookies, nothing. Ever. From 1st Sgts in Iraq andAfghanistan we hear things like “Could someone please send Private XXX some books or a card or something. He never gets mail and it is hard to watch the dissapointment in his face everyday when others get stuff at Mail Call and his name is never called.” We support the organization Books for Soldiers, a ZERO overhead kind of operation that helps you put the books and magazines you no longer want (along with baby wipes to wipe sand off goggles and scarves to block sand from noses, and toothpaste and Duncan Donuts coffee and a million other inexpensive things) into the hands of our troops. Hit the site and pack up those books you would otherwise donate to a charity stateside! www.BooksForSoldiers.com
